Yamato Kobayashi Exhibition 2026

Gallery tete will host the first solo exhibition of Japanese ceramic artist Yamato Kobayashi in Hong Kong, starting from January 30, 2026, at PMQ.

Yamato Kobayashi was born in 1983 in Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and continues to create in his hometown.

Kasama is known for its practicality in everyday ware production and its free-spirited ceramic culture. Kobayashi uses coarse soil rich in iron to create works that retain the texture of the earth even after firing.

The soil he uses emphasizes weight and unpredictability rather than lightness and uniformity, capturing the uncertainties that arise during the firing process. This granular material embodies Kobayashi's craftsmanship, allowing the presence of clay to remain subtle even after glazing.

Kobayashi's tableware beautifully enhances culinary presentations and is beloved by many chefs in Japan. We hope that friends in Hong Kong can also enjoy these works in their daily lives.
